The Budget Vote
I usually use this time to share updates from the various boards and commissions that I have attended and other community events. But today, I want to start with some reflection.
In reading our materials for tonight, I noted the number of households in Orange County – 55,259 according to the 2020 census – and behind that number are real people, dealing with real issues.
May Update
Honoring Resilience: Mental Health, Teachers, Nurses, and Community Strength
This month, I am lifting up people in our community who show remarkable strength every day. When we engage in conversations as a community and come together to support one another, we all benefit.
April Update
As your County Commissioner, I believe in being a good steward of our shared resources. That means making decisions that lift up every corner of our community—from our youngest children, to adults seeking new opportunities, to older adults looking to age in place or just enjoy retirement. This month, I’ve been reminded just how powerful local government can be when we center equity, safety, and economic resilience.
I’m focused on making sure Orange County works for all of us.
What I am seeing in Orange County
There are very real concerns, deep uncertainty, and outright fear about events originating at the federal level of our government. Everything from federal funding cuts that impact life-saving research and critical community programs to uncertainty around tariffs and how they might affect household budgets to federal money for schools and farms. I am also aware of the enormous fear of being harassed and even harmed because of the immigration status (legal or otherwise) or perceived immigration status of our friends, family, and neighbors.
